RUSSIAN ARTISTS AT THE EDINBURGH ART FESTIVAL

In Russian with English subtitles
1992

This short was produced for and shown at the special presentation of Russian art during the 1992 Edinburgh Art Festival. It profiles three extraordinary Russian artist participants of the Festival.

Olga Fradkina: Drawing is always frightfully unpredictable, because etching is a dialogue. At some point the work begins answering you; and the answer is not always the one you expect.

Nikita Gashunin: My technique is not very odd, nothing of Martian origin. I think it is impossible to invent something new. It all depends on your approach to art. As far as the materials are concerned, they begin with recognizable objects which are repurposed into the unexpected.

Pavel Makov: I work mostly with copper. I like this material a lot. And I like etching; it is very lifelike. For me, it is also very intimate because of its depth.
